Perfect porridge tips

Whats a serving of oats?

  • For me a serving is 40g or 1/2 a cup of oats. This is enough to fill me up with plenty of energy to last nearly 5 hours into the day.
  • Feel free to use less (or even more), just play around with the amount of milk you use.
How much milk?
  • This all depends on 1-how much oats you use and 2-how you like your porridge. I personally like quite sticky porridge, almost stodgey in places! More like baked oatmeal then true porridge (but I'm far too lazy and hungry in the morning to make proper baked oatmeal). So I use double the amount of milk as oats (1 cup or 230 mls).
  • If you like milkier porridge-add more! it may take little longer to cook but its all about how you like it.
What can I use instead of cows milk?
  • Water works but isn't as creamy, and you wont get the calcium that is vital for health.
  • A mixture of water and milk works well (particularly if you like a lot of liquid).
  • You can use tea! I'ts more flavorsome then water.
  • Of course any type of milk such as almond, soy, goats milk etc will work perfectly in the same way I personally use lactose free milk or almond when I have it around.
  • Coconut milk is really good! Way to rich to just use it on its own though, so best mixed with a plainer milk.
